CONCERT BAND FESTIVAL CLASSIFICATION FACTOR SHEET
All entrants to the Middle School, Junior High, and High School
Concert Band Festival will use this classification form.
It was adopted by the EWMEA in May, 1989.
To determine the correct classification, figure your school’s
point factor for each category and then total.
I. Size of School Point Factor__________
1-150 = 1 401 - 800 = 3 1101-1500 = 5 1801-2000 = 7
151-400 = 2 801-1100 = 4 1501-1800 = 6 2001- UP = 8
II. Size of Ensemble Point Factor__________
1 -25 = 1 41-50 = 3 61-70 = 5 81- 90 = 7
26-40 = 2 51-60 = 4 71-80 = 6 91-UP = 8

Each performing group MUST perform at least one selection from
the national Band Association (NBA) Selective List in their formulated
grade level. The NBA list may be obtained from your local music
store or WMEA university in your area. Other selections will be
the choice of the director.
PLEASE NOTE: A performing group’s director may request to
play a piece NOT on the NBA list as a substitute under the following
guidelines:
1. The request must be made no less than eight (8) weeks prior
to the festival.
2. The request must be approved by the chief adjudicator of the
festival.
3. The Instrumental (Band) Vice-President of the EWMEA shall designate
the chief adjudicator.
